LINE TRAINING

Course details

Objective

The Line Trainer Course is intended to prepare experienced Captains for the role of Line Trainer.

The course covers the training identified in AMC1 ORO.FC.146(e);(f)&(g) for suitably qualified PICs/Commanders nominated by the operator to conduct training.

More importantly, the aim is to give your Line Trainers the practical skills to brief, observe, train and debrief effectively while operating on the line.

2 Prerequisites

Candidates should be suitably experienced PICs/Commanders who are, or are intended to be, nominated by their operator to conduct line training.

The operator remains responsible for ensuring that each candidate meets the applicable experience and qualification requirements for their operation.

3 Course Footprint

This is a two-day course. Ideally there are two candidates, allowing each to practise both the trainer and trainee role. The course is not type-specific, so candidates can be from different fleets.

Day 1 – Classroom

  • The role and responsibilities of the Line Trainer
  • Training versus checking
  • Principles of instruction
  • Briefing and debriefing techniques
  • Giving effective feedback
  • Managing trainee performance
  • CRM concepts
  • CRM assessment
  • Pilot competencies and observable behaviours
  • Common assessment errors and bias
  • Operator-specific training as requested

Day 2 – FNPT II

Practical Line Trainer exercises using LOFT scenarios, including:

  • Pre-flight briefing
  • Observation of trainee performance
  • Appropriate intervention
  • CRM and competency assessment
  • Facilitation and questioning techniques
  • Post-flight debriefing and feedback

The emphasis throughout the day is on the candidate’s performance as a trainer, rather than their ability to fly the aircraft.

4 Course Completion

Successful completion provides the operator with evidence of the Line Trainer training completed by the candidate.

The operator remains responsible for confirming that the individual is suitably qualified, meets the applicable experience requirements and is formally nominated for the Line Trainer duties they will perform.

5 Operator Support

The operator should detail its process for the selection, training and nomination of Line Trainers within its training programme and Operations Manual.

Lupus Air Services can provide the necessary supporting text, either off-the-shelf or tailored to your operation. We can also review your existing Line Trainer programme against the amended AMC.
